Music

At Manor House School we want all girls to enjoy music. Girls up to Year 9 receive weekly music lessons and then girls can opt to take GCSE in Years 10 and 11.

Teaching schemes have been designed in line with the National Curriculum, the Key Stage 3 Music Strategy and the Music Manifesto.

All girls are taught the main musical skills of composition, performance, listening and appraising through a variety of genres from Classical to Popular to World Music. Our suite of 26″ iMacs with Logic, Garageband and Sibelius, gives all girls the opportunity to improve their music technology skills. This breadth of study provides girls with a wonderful foundation for GCSE.

KEY STAGE 3 (YEARS 7-9)

Music in Key Stage 3 is taught in double lessons. Girls continue to develop their skills but in a more formal manner. From Year 8 onwards, girls are taught how to use Logic Express, a professional piece of software, as a compositional tool.

GCSE

Pupils in Year 10 and 11 study the Edexcel syllabus and GCSE results are consistently high at 100% 9-7.

Outside the Classroom

Girls can learn a variety of instruments at Manor House School taught by the visiting instrumental staff and have the opportunity to take exams both by Associated Board and Trinity College, at the teacher’s discretion. Results are consistently at 100% with the majority achieving merits and distinctions.

Extra-curricular activities are in abundance and girls have the opportunity to perform in the local community, including at the National Trust’s Polesden Lacey and Hatchlands and BBC Radio Surrey, as well as in school concerts.

The Senior Choir has performed in Malta, Disneyland Paris and Vienna in recent years. The Rock Bands perform at our amazing Rock & Pop Evening in the summer time in addition to other gigs.

As well as ensembles, there are several musical theatre productions, including the Senior Production. For soloists, there are two music recitals for girls in KS2-KS4 during the autumn and summer terms.
