Manor House

The seventeenth century Manor House was built in the mid-eighteenth century and is the central hub of our School. Here, visitors are welcomed in the main entrance hall, complete with log fire, adjacent to the Headteacher’s Office. The building is used by all pupils and the ground floor houses the Dining Hall, Conservatory, Arcot Hall, the School Office and Medical Room, in addition to a number of classrooms.

Arcot Hall and Performing Arts Space

Built in 1937, Arcot Hall is situated to the left-hand side of the main house and is utilised primarily as a Performing Arts space and for smaller assemblies or extra-curricular activities.

Every pupil enjoys a weekly lesson in Performing Arts up to and including Year 9.  Drama is a strong subject area throughout the school and a popular and successful GCSE course. All girls are involved with the major Preparatory and Senior School productions each year. There is also the popular, annual, House Arts event, led by Year 10 and our involvement in the Shakespeare Festival in Seniors. Our annual Theme Week takes place at the end of the summer term and allows girls to experience many new skills and challenges.

The Conservatory

The light and airy Conservatory is used for our morning Breakfast Club (served from 8.00am to 8.30am with a cooked breakfast on Fridays). It brings added flexibility to the Dining Hall space and is used for school events, to serve ‘After-Match Teas’ and by Year 11’s (only) at break-time.

Netball and Tennis Courts

There are five courts in total, the first of which are situated alongside Elizabeth Green Hall (as shown) and the remainder on the left and right-hand side of the Sports fields. We hold our Tennis Academy on Mondays and Wednesdays after school.

Sports Fields

Our seventeen-acre site has plenty of room for outdoor sports activities. Our, outdoor Hockey/Football, Rounders pitches, Cross Country and Athletics tracks are well utilised by Prep and Senior pupils during weekly lessons and regular sporting fixtures.

Swimming Pool

Our fully heated outdoor swimming pool is used throughout the Summer term and, weather permitting, up to Autumn half-term. It is also open to families during the Summer holidays. We compete in many swimming galas and competitions with our Junior and Senior Swim Squads. Pupils in the Lower Prep (Reception to Year 2) swim at a local indoor pool all year round.

The ‘Octagon’ and Sports Department

The Octagon is where our Sports Department is based (as well as The Octagon being used as a reception/foyer space for major events). The Sports Department’s slogan ‘Enjoy, Empower, Excel’ was introduced in 2020 and encompasses the all-inclusive approach to sport and well-being at Manor House School. (Watch the video by Head of Sport, Mrs Hannah Tauber). Manor House competes at District and County level in eight major sports; Netball, Hockey, Football, Cross-Country, Athletics, Rounders, Swimming and Gymnastics, as well as offering its’ own Tennis Academy. Additional sports include Taekwondo and Poomsae Taekwondo, Cricket and Rugby and girls take part in Volleyball, Table-Tennis, Dance and Fitness lessons as part of the curriculum.

Elizabeth Green Hall

Fondly referred to as ‘EGH’, this impressive space, with mezzanine gallery, is named after our founder Elizabeth Green and was opened on 15 March 1997 by Mr Richard Thornton, OBE, JP, Lord Lieutenant of the County of Surrey. It is our main hall used for sport, assemblies, productions and concerts and offers the opportunity to add flexible theatre-style seating, when required.

Forest School

‘The Dell’ is where you will find the Mud Kitchen, camp-fire seating, climbing areas and other outdoor activities. Nursery, Reception and Lower Prep children enjoy a weekly Forest School lesson with our own Forest School Leader. We like to use our extensive grounds as much as possible to assist with practical learning.

All Saints Church

At Manor House School, we welcome girls of all faiths. All our pupils join in regular assemblies within school, which lie at the heart of our life together as a community. Year groups also take it in turns to enjoy a church service in the beautiful Saxon church, All Saints, adjacent to the school. Whole school services are special occasions. We also hold Lunchtime Concerts here with performances by our GCSE students, Music Scholars, Choirs and instrumentalists.

Mason Block

This building houses our ICT Suite used by all year groups, individual Science laboratories; Biology, Chemistry and Physics (used from Year 6 and above), and Senior School classrooms including Humanities and Mathematics.

Summer Garden

The Summer Garden is one of our many outdoor spaces and is used extensively by Upper Prep and Senior girls during break and lunch periods.

The Library

The Library is housed in one of the oldest parts of the School. It provides +16,000 resources to students and staff, boasting regular author visits and girls often donate a book to the library on their birthday. There is a supplementary Careers Room here, where Senior girls can access information and advice relating to their future Sixth Form Destination or chosen career path.

Main Block

This Senior School block is the home of the English Department, Modern Foreign Languages (French, German and Spanish) Latin/Classical Civilisation, Religious Studies and History rooms. For details of our recent academic results, which have consistently out-performed many other local girl’s schools, please visit our academic results page.

Nursery School

The Nursery School welcomes boys and girls aged 2-4 and is split into two classes; Nursery (aged 2-3 years) and Kindergarten (aged 3-4 years). In the Nursery, staff strive to create an environment specifically designed to meet the needs of each individual child. An excellent curriculum provides first class Early Years teaching, supplemented with specialist lessons in Performing Arts, French, Music and PE and Forest school sessions in our outdoor classroom, The Dell. The Nursery benefits from its’ own outdoor playground and shares the Orchard Garden with Lower Prep.

Lower Prep School - Reception Class and Years 1 and 2

Our Reception Class is housed in excellent purpose-built facilities, adjacent to our Nursery School, with large, modern and light classrooms and access to a dedicated all-weather playground. Years 1 and 2 are situated in the spacious Garden Block, overlooking the Summer Garden and next to the Orchard Garden. Our teachers encourage pupils to be happy, confident individuals with the values, skills and knowledge necessary to take on the challenges of life in the Prep School and beyond. Each class has a full-time teacher and access to a qualified teaching assistant.  From Reception, we are committed to maintaining smaller class sizes to get the best out of every girl. A broad, balanced curriculum allows us to celebrate and value creativity, whilst giving the girls plenty of time to develop at their own pace, with teaching tailored to the needs of each individual.
