Manor House School, an independent school in Bookham, Surrey is pleased to be hosting Cook Stars with their Academy Classes.

In the Spring Term, the weekly Cook Stars Academy classes will start on Tuesday 25th February from 6.00 pm to 7.45 pm.

These hands-on practical classes for 11-17 year olds will enable children to learn a variety of techniques and build confidence in the kitchen week on week.

As with the mini's and junior’s classes, Cook Stars provide everything pupils need for class; each week all ingredients and equipment are provided along with refreshments and a recipe card to take home. Every week, recipes alternate between sweet and savoury, and children will cook a great variety of foods, for example Indian, Chinese, Italian, Spanish, Mexican dishes as well as pies, cakes and puddings.

Classes are kept small, so each person in the Academy is given as much help and support as they need. Everyone is encouraged to work independently but they are taught as a group, so everyone works at the same pace, and no one gets left behind. Students each have their own workstation and they prepare and cook their own ingredients to create their dish. All students participate in helping clear up at the end, wash their own dishes and wipe down their cooking area before they take home their dish to enjoy! This class will count as learning a skill for any Duke of Edinburgh participants, please let us know if you have any questions about this.

Emma Wells is the proud owner of Cook Stars Molesey to Leatherhead.

Having completed a degree in hotel and catering management, Emma started off working in the hospitality industry but very quickly realised that managing family life around the unsociable working hours was going to be tricky. She re-trained as a teacher and has been able to utilise her knowledge and skills to teach both Food & Nutrition and Business Studies in London, Sussex and Surrey schools.

Emma says 'I have loved teaching; it is especially rewarding to teach young people practical cookery skills and give them the knowledge they need to eat healthily. After 30 plus years in education, however, it was time for a change, and I am excited to continue my food journey with Cook Stars. My children started cooking with me at a young age, and I love that Cook Stars enables children of all ages to cook and learn about food in a fun way. There is nothing better than being able to take home something you have cooked for your family and seeing the children's pride and enjoyment when they have made something great, really makes this the best job in the world'.

Manor House School boasts an impressive specialist room for Food Technology which is used by Upper Prep School pupils and Senior School Pupils, as well as those taking the Food & Nutrition course at GCSE level. Please click here to read the Key stage 3 curriculum information.
